what i'm thinking about this morning

We have a lot to do this weekend.  Next week is Vivi's birthday (OMG, she's really turning one... how is that possible?) and we have a lot of family coming into town to celebrate with us.  So, we have sheets to wash, rooms to clean, and other random house work to do.  I also want to make a really cool piece of wall art that I saw somewhere.  But it's a secret!  I will be posting pictures once it's done!  I also want to make some homemade playdough and silly puddy with Marley.

We have a back porch to clean and a yard to mow and a driveway to straighten up.  Diapers need to be washed, clothes need to be washed and folded, and I need to continue work on Vivi's book.  There are a lot of things to do.

But all of that is on hold right now while we have a quiet morning.  Marley is coloring and practicing letters, Asa is getting to sleep in, and Vivi is exploring everything.  And I'm watching it all and thinking about how lucky we are.

We have stress.  We have days that don't go well.  And I have days when I feel like I can't catch up on all the work that needs to be done around here.  Days when Marley isn't listening or Vivi is really fussy or Asa had a bad day at work or I didn't get enough sleep.  But if there is one thing that I learned during Asa's deployment, it is that we have each other and that is all that really matters.  As long as the four of us are healthy and happy and loving each other, we are doing what we are supposed to be doing.  It's a hard thing to remember when I feel stressed or worried about something.  But it's true.  None of the things that stress us out should matter as much as making sure our family is happy.  The four of us are together and a team and we can get through whatever may come our way.  Maybe I'll write it on a piece of paper and stick it to the fridge.  Because we need to remember it every day.

We are so lucky. Life is good. Love is here.

at the river

A glimpse into our favorite time lately: hours spent at the river.
Fish catching, tadpole watching, line casting, shell hunting, water splashing, and rock eating fun.

she said it: random marley quotes

Knight Marley.  She made this costume up all on her own, y'all.  Sword, shield, boots, hat, mask.  Go, imagination!

"Marley, will you go get the chocolate we bought at the store today?"
"Yeah! Let's have a chocolate feast!"

"I tooted.  That was for your, Mama.  You keep it."

"I was holding onto Henna and presently she jumped out of my arms!"

"Am I old enough to go to field camp with Mimi?"
"No, sweetie.  You have to be a little bit bigger like Mama or Daddy."
"Oh... then I will never get to go because I don't eat my vegetables so I can grow big..."

"Daddy?  Do you wanna give me like any dollars that you have?"

(When asked if she wanted to eat some of her broccoli mac-and-cheese) "Broccoli is never going in my mouth!"
Broccoli did end up going in her mouth though.  And she even earned a dollar for her wallet.

"Shake it like a salt shaker!"

sunday tidbits

We have really been getting into the groove of summer and keeping ourselves really busy lately.  We are generally busy people anyway, but it seems we are at full speed lately.  Here are some things we have been doing.

{Making Vivi's birthday gift}  I have never sewn anything on my own, but I am attempting to make her a birthday gift that will be a very special and sentimental cloth book that she will hopefully love!  We are really trying to go the homemade route for birthday presents this year to save some money.  But this book doesn't feel like that at all.  I am so excited to make it and give it to her and it feels way more special than any toy I could have gotten her.

{Playing together} Vivi and Marley are learning to play together more every day.  Vivi is getting old enough to watch Marley and do what she's doing.  So, they play under the blankets together, drum on things, and even play with blocks sort of together.  (It's team work for Marley to build with them and then Vivi knock them over, right?)

{Splash Pad} Vivi and Marley both love the water!

{Fishing}  We have taken a few spontaneous trips to the river after dinner to let Asa and Marley do some fishing.  Marley is loving it.  She has gotten to great at casting!

{Welcome Home Party}  This last week, Asa's company (finally) had a welcome home party for them. We had a family PT session all together and then spent the day having BBQ and playing games.  It was a lot of fun.  And don't we look cute?!

{River Trips} We have made a few trips to the river in the afternoons to let the girls explore and swim.  This time is so happy for all of us.  The girls get to have some time outside doing things they love, Asa gets to fish, and I get to relax in the water and get some sun.  Win, win, win.  Even if we only stay for an hour or two, it is always worth the effort to get there.

 {Squeezing in painting during dinner}

{Trying out old new toys}  Marley isn't too happy about the fact that this toy has become Vivi's since she can no longer fit on it.  But Vivi is ecstatic.

{Sick babies}  Both girls have gotten sick this week.  Runny noses, coughs and red eyes have filled the house.  But both are recovering and and acting like it never happened!

{Homemade goodness} I'm on a homemade kick.  Breads, tortillas, ice cream, blackberry cobbler, and all kinds of new recipes. Our kitchen has never smelled so good.

{Kisses}  Is there really anything sweeter than a baby who has just learned to kiss?  I don't think so.

Father's Day

We had a blast on Father's Day this year.  Of course, we had to make up for not being with Asa last Father's Day!  So, we did a few of his favorite things!

Fishing at the river.

No, we didn't have swim suits.  Yes, Marley was naked.  Yes, Vivi had sand in her diaper and her clothes were soaked.  And yes, they both rode home naked.  But it was all just the way it was supposed to be!

Grillin' and ice cream makin'.

Shooting Rockets.

Asa picked this out at Hobby Lobby and was super excited to get to launch it.  In fact, he is so into it that we're also watching October Sky tonight to continue our rocket theme.  Marley also really loved it!

We had three successful launches and attempts to catch it.  It was a lot of fun and we are all wanting to do more!  Too bad there isn't a Hobby Lobby where we live, so we will have to wait until out next trip to Springfield.

We really had a great weekend (pictures from our trip to Springfield on Saturday to come).  Asa means the world to all three of us girls and I couldn't be happier that he is the daddy of our babies.  He's an awesome one and they adore him!
