{this moment}

{this moment} is a Friday ritual from one of my new favorite blogs, Soulemama.com. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.
 If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments for all to find and see.

vivienne's birthday book

About a month before Vivi's birthday, I saw an idea on a blog.  I wanted to sew her a cloth book.  I see a lot of ideas on blogs, actually.  My To Do list is lengthened every time I discover a new blog.  The big difference between this idea and others I have thought about in the past is that this idea didn't have a How To.

A little background on me:  I have never sewn anything in my life.  I watched my mom sew a sling for Marley for Christmas, but I have not actually sewn a single thing.  I did get a sewing machine for Christmas, but it hadn't even been opened yet.

So, here I was, with a fantastic idea of this sentimental birthday gift that I wanted to create and sew for our girl.  But there weren't even any instructions on how to do it.  Before you get too excited, this post will not include instructions because, well, I screwed up a lot along the way. But if I make more and I get awesome, then yes, I will give instructions.

For now, behold our beautiful book:

There are plenty of flaws, but I could not be happier about how it turned out.  I think it looks amazing and I am so proud of teaching myself how to do all of this.  Asa and Marley also played a role in deciding what to put in the book and there are a few pages with Marley's exact words.

I am so in love with this book.  Vivienne likes to look through it, but I don't think any true appreciation will come until she is in her twenties.  For now, it is something we all get to read through and talk about with her.  And she loves that activity.

The sewing slip-ups and crooked pictures give it a lot of character, in my opinion.  And I will be overjoyed for Vivienne to smile about those flaws one day.  I am just so happy that I made something so special to all of us.
