We woke up early in the morning, and with all of us feeling much better we decided to head out early and make a fire in the fire pit behind the house. It was a chilly morning, but Asa has a great fire going quickly and we were warm enough to enjoy ourselves. Marley continued with her new trick of shoving things in her pockets and we explored the nearby creek.
Once Marley got bored with the fire, we decided to go have breakfast at the coffee house a couple miles away. They had free wifi, which we needed to download the geocaches that Asa wanted to go to that day. So, we stopped there and got yummy breakfast treats. They had a wooden bear there that I was sure Marley would love, but she did not. She was "all done" before we even got the camera ready!
Next, we succeed in actually finding the main entrance to Beaver's Bend. At this point we still didn't know that we were going to find the playground and main camping area we were about to find, we were just excited about finding the sign! We stopped and took many pictures on the side of the road of the beautifully colored trees, but Marley was growing agitated with all the car riding, so we searched for something to do.
And just past the Visitor's Center which we had been to two days before, we found the fun stuff! There was a nature center, a playground, a restaurant, picnic tables, and wide open space, perfect for little girls to run in.
We had a lot of fun exploring that part of the park, and it totally changed my opinion about Beaver's Bend. The nature center had wounded birds from around the park and reptiles they had collected. We got to take a lot of good pictures of the trees and there were plenty of other people there (something I thought we wouldn't see while we were there, based on the first day). After all of our exploring, we got hungry and stopped at the Beaver's Bend restaurant. It wasn't the best food in the world, but the view of the park was fantastic and we enjoyed watching the bird and squirrels in the trees while we ate. Back in the car, Marley passed out. So, we drove around long enough for her to take a nap.
Once she woke up, it was time for geocaching again! So, we start driving around trying to find one and it leads us down a very deserted looking road. When we got to within a tenth of a mile, we ran into a sign that says "Road Closed. U.S. Government Property" right in the way of where we are headed. Here's why:
So, I say "Ok, where's the next one" and Asa says "Hold my pants."
Who knows how cold it was, but he got across, found the cache, and made it back without getting the GPS wet and without freezing his butt off! He was pretty high on all the adrenaline in his body after that, so he was ready to tackle more. Unfortunately, we were not so lucky after that one. We climbed a pretty big mountain and trekked through bushes, but we didn't find another one.
The last thing Asa wanted to do that day was set out his own geocache for other people to find. He left Marley and I at a riverbed and we occupied ourselves with rocks while he planted his cache. Little did I know it would be an hour before he came back. It turns out, he got really into it and decided to scale a wall of shale and and then climb a while longer on other rocks to reach this point to hide his cache.
He took this picture from where he hid it. We were about half a mile to the left on the river. I was pretty impressed when he showed me how hard it was to get up there, and thankful he didn't tell me ahead of time what he was doing because I would have been freaking out!
The sun eventually set on our last day in Beaver's Bend. We had so much fun together and it was sad to think that that was our last night. We cooked ourselves dinner, layed on the couch together, and got in the hot tub one last time, before getting in the king size bed next to our precious baby.
