Well, Asa doesn't think he would like being a city fire fighter. One of my mom's friends, Bobby, was a fire fighter for a long time. He talked to Asa about what it would be like, and we both think it would involve too much EMTing. Bobby works for the US Forest Service and said he could help Asa get a job working as a fire fighter for the Forest Service. That is totally up Asa's alley. Bobby said things like "You would be outside all day" and "You would be working in the woods" and I saw Asa's face light up! Those are dream jobs for Asa!
So, we have been in touch with Bobby over the past few days. So far he has applied for two jobs, both about 2 hours away from here. If he got either of them, he would probably stay there during the week and then come home on the weekends. Marley and I can't move until I finish school in two years. Bobby said that he would need to get a job somewhere in the Forest Service. That could be in Texas, Louisiana, California.... wherever there is one. Once he has a job, they will actually pay for him to go to Wildfire Academy and get certified for that job. Then, he could get a job with the Forest Service! Since he would already be working for them, he would be able to easily get a job when they had an opening. The only downside is that for 2 or 3 years, he has to work where they want him. He can't really choose to work in East Texas until he has put in some time with the Forest Service.
So, Marley and I are for sure here for another two years, when I graduate. But Asa could be anywhere. We both feel like it is a great opportunity, and we are willing to make the sacrifice of being apart. He would be great benefits, make enough money for me to stay home with our kids, and it would be a job that he loves. Thinking about the time apart is a little sad. But it would be worth it.
In other news, Marley is down to two naps a day, we have finally gotten rid of the fleas in our house and on Kima, Uncle Chris is graduating on Friday, and I have the day off! Woohoo!
