BBQ and Fun with Girls

Last Friday, we hosted a BBQ for Asa's platoon. Asa wanted to invite everyone over for a crawfish boil, but we could not find anywhere in the area that sold live crawfish. So, we had to change our plans to a BBQ. Asa invited his whole platoon, which is about 25 or 30 people. We got all the food we needed for hamburgers, beer-boiled bratwurst, hot wings, and BBQ chicken legs. Asa's sister, Emily, came in to town the night before, so she helped us get everything together and ready for the crowd. And then it rained.

Asa's friend McGilvary and his Sargent and his family were the only people to come. I think that at first Asa was a little disappointed, but everyone ended up having a lot of fun! Even with the rain, Asa was able to bar-b-que and we had our new Wii to entertain people also. Sargent Bollin brought his wife Amy and their three little girls. The girls were around 7, 4, and 2. I had never realized it, but Marley has never actually played with another little girl! She plays with her cousins who are boys, and a little rough most of the time, but girls are so much more her speed! I was amazed at how much fun she had with them! Normally around other kids, she doesn't want anything to do with them until hours in to the visit. But she immediately went up to her room with the two younger girls and stayed in there for about 30 minutes without coming out. When I peeked around the corner to see what they were doing, they were sitting in the floor with all the toys scattered around them, and the two younger girls were talking to Marley.

I think she really enjoyed having some little girl friends to hang out with. She even ate! I guess she saw them eating and thought it looked cool! She was one happy and tired little girl at the end of the day. Hopefully we can spend some more time with Sargent Bollin's family and Marley can get more used to having friends! Overall, the BBQ was a major success, even with only a small group there. That is more my speed anyway. Asa is the party man, but he even admitted it was more fun this way!
